Floating license#

To setup a floating license, open the Isotropix License Manager. In the Configuration tab, set Licensing Type to either Floating (Remote) or Floating (Local)

Floating (Remote)#

Use Floating (Remote) when ilise server is located on a different machine than the one running Isotropix License Manager. In that case, you need to specify the hostname or the IP address of the machine running ilise server in the Ilise Host Address text field.

Isotropix License Manager set to Floating Remote

Floating (Local)#

Use Floating (Local) when ilise server is running on the same machine running Isotropix License Manager. When set to Floating (Local), there are some additional options to setup ilise and install your licenses. To install floating licenses on the local machine using Isotropix License Manager, please refer to Installing Floating Licenses.

Ilise Location#

By default, you shouldn't have to change the location of ilise binary as it should always point to the correct location. However, if you have customized your installation folder or moved ilise binary to a custom location, you can set here the proper path where the Isotropix License Manager should look for ilise binary.

Ilise Port#

By default, ilise runs on port 40500. However ilise can be explicitly set to run on a different port.

If the port number set on the server side running ilise is different to the default one (40500), make sure to set the correct port number in the Ilise Port field. Otherwise the applications won't be able to reach the license server.

Starting Ilise#

You can start ilise server by pressing the Start button. This button is only available when Licensing Type is set to Floating (Local). If you get an error message when starting ilise then:

  • ilise server is already running and you can't run multiple instances of ilise on the same machine.
  • ilise can't run since it requires Administration Privilege. Please Quit the Isotropix License Manager and run it with Administration Privilege enabled.
  • ilise server binary isn't found. To solve this issue, please set the correct ilise location to Ilise Location text field.

Shutting Down Ilise#

You can shutdown ilise server (and not the machine) by pressing the Shutdown button.

This button is only available when Licensing Type is set to Floating (Local). Please be aware all connected clients will get disconnected and won't be able to reconnect until ilise is restarted.

Testing the Connection#

You can test your connection settings by clicking on Connect to Ilise...

If you get the following message "Successfully connected to Ilise. Congratulations, the license server is reachable from this host!" then you're all setup and the server can successfully be reached.

If you don't get this message, please follow the instructions in the error message dialog to troubleshoot the issue.

Note

A successful connection test doesn't mean a valid license is available for an application. When no valid license is found then client application will pop up a licensing error message.

Getting License Information#

Clicking on the Information button displays information about the licenses ilise is serving as well as the list of hosts currently connected to the server.

This is useful to track the number of remaining licenses, display the expiration date of the maintenance or troubleshoot licensing issues.

For example:

Saving Configuration Settings#

To save the configuration, simply click on the Apply button. If you Quit without applying your modifications, your current licensing configuration is lost.

Installing Floating Licenses#

In this section, we will see how to install floating license(s) on the server using Isotropix License Manager. Please note that you can alternatively install licenses directly from the command-line.

For more details, please refer to ILISE License Server section.

Step 1#

On the machine that will run ilise server, open the license file you should have received by email in a Text Editor application. The license file should look like this dummy one:

AEE2348B-DDF97111-C3EEADB2-B3A1ADFC
D64E54BB-94C08F22-C153A2FA-23E41499

F743EBD9-5310C0C7-951695B5-4E6AACFF

Step 2#

In the Text Editor, select all the text and copy it to the clipboard using Ctrl+C.

Step 3#

Launch Isotropix License Manager with the Administrative Privilege enabled or you won't be able to start ilise. The binary licman is located in the Clarisse directory found in the folder where you installed Clarisse.

Step 4#

In the Configuration tab, set Licensing Type to Floating (Local).

Step 5#

click on the Licensing tab and paste the content of the clipboard using Ctrl+V in License Key field such as this:

licman floating

Note

To paste the content of the clipboard you need to press Ctrl+V since Cmd+V might not always work.

Step 6#

Once the content is pasted. Press Save License... A file browser pops up and name your license file as you like.

Isotropix License Manager will redirect you to the directory where ilise looks for the license file by default which is:

Platform Path
Windows %APPDATA%/Isotropix/Ilise
macOS /Users/CURRENT_USER/Library/Preferences/Isotropix/Ilise
Linux ~/.isotropix/Ilise

Note

In the event there are multiple files in ilise license folder, ilise will always load the latest license file since a single license file contains all the licenses you own.

Step 7#

click on the Configuration tab and press the Start button (if ilise wasn't already running, otherwise press Shutdown then Start).

Press Connect to Ilise... to test the connection.

If you get "Successfully connected to Ilise.Congratulations, the license server is reachable from this host!" then ilise is up and running.

Step 8#

click Apply to save the configuration.

You can check information on licenses served by ilise by clicking on Information which should look like this:

CLARISSE IFX MAINTENANCE VERSION 5.0 SP10 PERMANENT RELEASE LICENSE
FEATURE 50 SEAT(S) LICENSED TO ISOTROPIX
